One key objective of Washington’s emerging new nuclear agreement with Iran is reportedly to block a potential Israeli military strike against Tehran’s nuclear program facilities, according to an unnamed Western official.

"If [the] Iranians miscalculate, the potential for a strong Israeli response is something that we want to avoid," told Reuters news agency.

The Sultanate of Oman, which enjoys ties with both Iran and the West, has reportedly acted as a mediator in recent secret negotiations between the Biden administration and the ayatollah regime in Tehran.

While the deal is neither official nor final, it is expected to be an interim agreement between Iran and the world powers. According to the official, Washington would reportedly waive almost $20 billion in sanctions against Tehran in exchange for Iran halting its uranium enrichment at 60% purity. This percentage of purity is below the 90% weapons-grade level but remains vastly above the 3.67% level stipulated in the controversial 2015 Iran nuclear deal.

In addition, Washington allegedly demands that Iran free American hostages, end its proxy attacks on U.S. contractors in the Middle East and stop the export of ballistic missiles to Russia.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently warned the West that no agreement would curb a potential Israeli military strike against Iran’s nuclear program.

“Our stance is clear: No agreement with Iran will oblige Israel,” vowed Netanyahu.

Addressing his cabinet on Sunday, the Israeli premier expressed his opposition to a nuclear deal, which he argues will only lead to Iranian nuclear weapons.

"We are starting the week with a series of missions and a series of achievements. I will start with the missions: Our first mission is to stop the nuclearization of Iran. We have made it clear to our American friends time and again, and I will do so again today, that we oppose the agreements, first of all, the original agreement, the JCPOA [Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action], which will only pave Iran's way to a bomb and line its pockets with hundreds of billions of dollars,” stated Netanyahu.
