Official Hamas documentation openly refers Gazan civilian casualties from failed rocket launches by Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), the IDF revealed on Saturday.

“According to Hamas data and documentation, about 11% of the rocket launches carried out by the terrorist organizations towards Israel since October 7 fell within Gaza, resulting in the deaths of Gaza civilians,” the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) in Israel posted on 𝕏 on Sunday.

IDF Spokesperson in Arabic Avichai Adraee made the announcement after IDF troops operating in Gaza discovered Hamas documents dating back to Operation Breaking Dawn (2022) and 2020. The documents were signed by senior members of the al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas.

The files contained names of Gazan residents who were struck by the failed rocket launches from the terrorist organization. Those same names were featured in the official reports issued by the Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry, which attributed the fatalities to Israel.

“The IDF seized many other documents indicating that Hamas knew about the tragic consequences of the failed launches, but the method of action is clear: to hide the information and accuse Israel,” Adraee said in a statement.

Among the documents, Israel uncovered communication between the two terrorist entities, with Hamas asking PIJ to take responsibility for the casualties of its failed rocket launches. In response, the PIJ suggested hiding the failed launches from the public to “support the image of the resistance.”

Another document featured a Hamas request to stop PIJ from launching rockets specifically in the vicinity of houses belonging to the Hamas leadership because of the risk they posed to their safety. There was no mention of preventing the firing of rockets near the homes of Gazan civilians.

“These documents clearly show that terrorist organizations in Gaza are cooperating to hide the extent of the destruction and killing caused by failed launches that fall on the residents, while making an effort to protect Hamas terrorists, overlooking the danger to civilians,” Adraee noted, adding that the terror groups are lying and concealing failed missile launches.

"Hamas was aware of the high rate of failed launches carried out by the Islamic Jihad and the danger it poses to the homes in the vicinity of which the launches took place, and even directed it to them, demanding that they not set up launch pads in the vicinity to their members to avoid putting them in risk,” Adraee added.

Hamas initiated war with Israel on Oct. 7 by firing around 3,000 rockets against Israeli cities and invading southern Israel, where terrorists massacred 1,200 and abducted at least 250 hostages into Gaza, some of whom had already been killed. There have also been multiple accounts of rape and sexual abuse documented from victims and perpetrators, both on Oct. 7 and during months of captivity.
