Terror attack outside Haifa naval base leaves 1 seriously injured, assailant dead

A terror attack took place early Monday morning outside the naval base in Haifa, leaving a 20-year-old soldier seriously wounded before the terrorist was shot and killed by security forces.

According to statements by police and armed forces, the incident began around 7:15 a.m. when the attacker deliberately collided with the victim's vehicle outside the base entrance. The terrorist, believed to be in his late 20s, then exited his crashed car wielding an ax, and ran towards the closed gates of the naval facility.

Base security guards opened fire, killing the man before he could breach the entrance. The 20-year-old victim suffered critical injuries to his legs and was transported by first responders to Rambam Hospital for emergency surgery. Officials have opened an investigation but cite early evidence that the attack appeared to have been politically motivated based on notes left by the deceased terrorist. The naval base entrance remains sealed off while security forces process the scene.
